The Word of God on the Lips of Children

"Mother is the word of God on the lips of children" - The Crow

 Conception was a whisper

coldly let loose

without a thought

or

a care

never knowing

never the matter

of consequences

that may come

to those that you left behind yourself

while you paraded

we pretended

that we didnt hate life

or

that you even loved us

or

even cared

for us

a little

maybe

its better

this way

rather than

that way

but do you

even care

even yet

or was my unnatural spawning

my snagging

if you will

of the

coil of mortality

the end

of your good times

never the matter

tis more education

more and more

but

here is the kicker

the little gift

that keeps me going

that fire that pushes me on

is that

even though you tried

oh so very hard

to destroy

what was

a semblance of a youth

you failed

I am here

and

better still

I am stronger

and wiser

than you

could ever have been.

Hi, greengypsywolf. These lines:

even though you tried

oh so very hard

to destroy

what was

a semblance of a youth

you failed

I am here

are chilling. Whether you're writing about a political struggle or a personal one (what ARE you writing about?) this is a very powerful poem. And the painting of the gallows in the rain froze me to the spot.

Nice work. I want to read more.

I kind ofh thought people may wonder what I was talking about, so alluded to it in my title.

The title is taken from "The Crow", where the main character tells a girl on the streets that "Mother is the word of God on the lips of children".

I love how you parreled political upheaval; thats how I know whether Ive written well. If others can find a story or truth in my poem that is completely valid yet not what I intended to say with the words that I've written, then I feel I have done my job as a writer.

You have great artistic insights.

This only the 2nd hub I have read by you, both of them

drew me right in, and I was "compelled" to read more.

Such triumph at the end here. It moves me. It speaks to so many situations in life. I have taken care of foster children, and it is all about letting them know that despite everything they are strong, they survived; and that they can make their here and now, and tomorrow.
